First experimentation phase

N.O.WA.S.T.E. 1° experimentation phase is working.

Today 24 families are testing N.O.WA.S.T.E. prototypes in their homes in Gaggi, Castelmola and Melilli.

Families involved in this first step are especially motivated to participate in the project by giving their active contribution. They were selected because they have demonstrated a particular awareness towards the issues related to environment and waste sustainable management.

They are available to actively collaborate with Municipalities and IRSSAT to provide reference data about the daily use of prototypes;

The families have also been called "Friends of N.O.WA.S.T.E. Prototype" because they were aware that their experience will be crucial in the development of other phases of the project N.O.WA.S.T.E., so the families involved in this first phase are to be considered an active part of project. They are aware that they have a great responsibility because of they can build the future success of the N.O.WA.S.T.E. system;

The prototype tested in this phase is only a first model made by hand, therefore, it can't be considered an appliance. So, families must follow instructions provided by IRSSAT to ensure the correct use of prototype;

The main purpose of this first test cycle is to obtain data and information to develop a new version of the prototype which will be optimized in all its elements and it will be more functional and easier to use. So, the families are required to compile special questionnaires for data acquisition and technical monitoring;

OBJECTIVES - during the first phase to involve families' friends of the project "through the daily tests objectives are as follows:

• Testing prototype acceptability inside households, for example installing prototypes in the kitchen, and check any weak points such as bad odors
• Check the duration of the mechanical and electronic components subjected to stress and daily use;
• To develop with the experience of the families involved, how to organize the collection of pre-compost produced;
