The Project
The project will be developed through an initial stage of preparatory actions which include studies relating to waste management in Europe and worldwide and the realization of the first prototype of the appliance that will be tested.
From the sixth month will begin testing in the 3 partners municipalities representing three different types of urban development in order to test the appliance and the new plan for waste management in different contexts to develop a system of governance replicable and adaptable to any urban or rural center in the world.
Preparatory activities
1. Laboratory experimentation, monitoring, evaluation, problem solving strategies and contingency plans.
Development and implementation of the prototype system on the basis of the results, information and data coming from studies and researches following the established evaluation criteria.
IRSSAT will organise a promotion campaign and a sponsorship open conference in Catania. During this event the pilot-prototype will be presented thanks to practical demonstration activities and through the showing of a technical and promotional short film produced in order to illustrate its functionality and benefits.
Main target audience will be local and regional administrators, political leaders, stakeholders, opinion leaders, key actors but also simple citizens, young people, schools and universities, etc.

Model Planning and Prototype Implementation.
1. We will test the N.O.WA.S.T.E. system through the installation of about 1.000 prototypes in the 3 Municipalities involved:
- Municipality of Gaggi – rural community member of the Alcantara Fluvial National Park.;
- Municipality of Castelmola – mountain tourist centre neighbouring Taormina. It’s one of the most beautiful villages (on the whole 179 villages awarded) in Italy, a natural balcony above Taormina;
- Municipality of Melilli – metropolitan industrial community part of a petrochemical industrial pole near Syracuse (Melilli – Augusta - Priolo Gargallo).
Naturally to accomplish the project idea it is necessary foresee a gradual implementation plan to reach long term and valid results. The plan consists of three steps for an overall duration of 29 months.
